Feel the warm heart of the Himalayas on our Ghale Gaun & Bhujung Village Tour a unforgettable journey into Nepal’s rural treasures’ rich culture, traditions, and breathtaking landscapes. Located in the northern hills of Lamjung District, Ghale Gaun and Bhujung are two charming villages inhabited by the Gurung people, renowned for their hospitality, bravery, and rich cultural heritage.
This 5-day, 4-night experience is not a tour it’s an experience that brings you in touch with nature, community, and a way of life that is grounding and inspiring.
We get it you don’t need another tick-box trip. You crave something real. Something that stirs your heart, opens your mind, and connects you with people, not just places. That’s exactly what the Ghale Gaun & Bhujung Village Tour offers.
Here’s what makes this trip truly remarkable, in the form of frequently asked (and deeply felt) questions:
What’s so different about this tour compared to normal trekking or sightseeing tours in Nepal?
This is no ordinary trek. It’s village-based eco-tourism at its best designed to immerse you in the everyday life of the Gurung people, one of Nepal’s most culturally rich and hospitable communities. Instead of rushing through trails or hurriedly taking photos, you’ll:
Live alongside locals in traditional homestays
Enjoy meals cooked over wood fires in earthen kitchens
Join in seasonal activities like farming, weaving, or local ceremonies
Experience authentic culture firsthand, not staged shows
It’s slow travel, deep moments, and being totally present all the way.
Where will I stay—and what’s it really like?
You’ll be staying in authentic Gurung homestays warmly kept stone houses with wooden balconies, nestled on hillsides with sprawling valleys and snow-capped peaks.
Picture cozy blankets, morning fog, children playing in the courtyard, and the smell of freshly cooked roti and tea. The accommodations are simple but comfortable, and the hospitality is first-rate. Gurung hosts are renowned for treating visitors like family.
What will I eat?
Delicious, home-cooked organic meals made from ingredients cultivated just a few feet away. Expect:
Daal Bhat (lentils and rice) with seasonal vegetables
Homemade pickles, local greens, and spicy chutneys
In some homes, you may even get to taste “Kodo ko Raksi” (local millet wine) or honey wine (Mad)—a festive delicacy!
And yes, it’s all prepared with love—and lots of garlic.
Is there any cultural experience included?
Yes, and it’s the highlight of this experience. During your first evening in Ghale Gaun, enjoy a traditional cultural dance program wherein villagers perform ancient Gurung songs, war dances, and love ballads in traditional colorful dress.
Aside from that, however, the entire village experience is cultural:
Visiting the Gurung Museum
Speaking with elders who were in the British Gurkha Army
Watching or joining local rituals, festivals, or prayer ceremonies (if your trip coincides)
Picking up some basic Nepali or Gurung words from playful kids
Helping out with cooking or farming if you are interested
Do I need to be super fit for this tour?
Nope! This tour is accessible to travelers of all ages and physical abilities. While there’s walking and some gentle hiking (if you opt to hike to Bhujung), it’s all easily manageable. You can also drive to most places if you need to, it’s flexible and at your pace.
What’s the scenery like?
In a word: breathtaking.
Towering peaks like Machhapuchhre, Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu in the distance
Rolling green hills, waterfalls cascading, and terraced fields
Sunsets that bathe entire villages in gold
Clear night skies full of stars with mountains silhouetted in the distance
A photographer’s haven and a soul’s sanctuary.
Can I extend the number of days of the tour or combine it with other destinations?
Yes. You can easily:
Add a day trek to Rainaskot or Ghanpokhara
Continue to Pokhara, a few hours onwards
Combine this tour with short treks like Sikles or Annapurna Foothills
Or even linger longer to volunteer or learn new skills like basket weaving, farming, or local cooking
Just let us know, and we’ll tailor your itinerary.
What is the impact of my visit on the community?
That’s a great question. This tour is based on the model of community-based eco-tourism, which means:
Local families host and feed you direct income support
Youth and elders get involved through cultural shows and guiding
Your visit helps preserve traditional customs, architecture, and language
Part of your fee goes toward village development, education, and sustainability projects
In short: You’re not just taking memories you’re giving something back, too.
This is the type of tour that slows you down in the best possible way. It’s tea by a smoky fireplace, hearing elders recount legends, waking to roosters and misty hills, and sensing a stronger connection to people and place.
If you’ve been yearning for travel with purpose, beauty, and heart…

Your journey begins early in the morning (around 7:00 AM) as we leave the bustling capital behind and hit the road via the Prithivi Highway. The scenic 5-hour drive to Besisahar takes you along winding rivers, terraced fields, and glimpses of distant mountains.
We’ll enjoy a traditional Nepali lunch either in Besisahar or en route, depending on the flow of the day. After a brief rest, we continue for another 3-hour drive switching to a Jeep if needed depending on the season and group size ascending the hills toward Ghale Gaun.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted in true Gurung style with garlands, local music, and warm smiles. The village lies at an altitude of 2,100 meters and offers jaw-dropping panoramic views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. In the evening, relax and enjoy a traditional cultural dance performance, a heartfelt expression of Gurung customs passed down through generations.
Overnight in a cozy, family-run homestay, where you'll be treated as more than a guest you’ll be family.
Wake up to the sound of birds and the sun rising over snowcapped peaks. After breakfast, spend the day immersed in Gurung culture. Visit the local Gurung Museum, walk through vibrant alleys lined with stone houses and fluttering prayer flags, and connect with locals as they go about their daily lives—farming, weaving, and sharing stories.
You’ll witness traditional cooking methods, taste organic produce fresh from the fields, and if the timing’s right, join in local festivals or rituals. The people of Ghale Gaun are known for their hospitality and you'll find that every door is open with a smile.
Optional short hikes around the village offer vantage points to soak in the majestic views and serenity of the surrounding forested hills and Himalayan backdrop.
After breakfast, we head toward Bhujung, another captivating Gurung village just a short drive or gentle hike from Ghale Gaun. Perched on a steep hillside, Bhujung is the largest Gurung settlement in Nepal and remains wonderfully untouched by commercial tourism.
Here, the cultural vibe is strong and sincere. Walk among clusters of traditional stone-roofed homes, chat with elders who still wear traditional attire, and sip local honey wine (mad) with villagers who might break into song and dance without any occasion at all just pure joy.
You'll get a deeper look at community-based living Bhujung is a model of sustainable tourism and local cooperation. Villagers collectively manage tourism to ensure that both culture and nature are preserved while sharing their way of life with respect.
Return to Ghale Gaun in the evening or opt to stay overnight in Bhujung for a more immersive experience (customizable upon request).
After an early breakfast, we begin our journey back to Kathmandu. The return drive (7–9 hours) is the perfect time to reflect on your experience new friendships, stories, and perhaps even a few Gurung words you've picked up.
Lunch is served en route as we descend from the hills and re-enter the city’s rhythm. By evening, you’ll be back in Kathmandu, carrying the soulful energy of the mountains with you.
This tour is suitable for all fitness levels. Most of the journey is accessible by vehicle, and village walks are easy to moderate. No trekking experience is required, making it ideal for families, solo travelers, and cultural explorers.
